Get High on your OWN Supply

The best —and natural way— to get high

Let’s be honest, today’s world is fueled by drugs, both legal and illegal. We are coffee fiends, in the morning to start the day, Energy drink chuggers and Adderal poppers to stay focused in class or work, and finally unwinding with a joint or drink at the end of our day to sleep. And of course, there’s the saddening opiate crisis and Xanax addiction our world is facing. But as much as these drugs do work, boy do they work! These highs have long-term repurcussions, eventually leading to addiction, health problems or worst of all, death.

Why not get high, not on drugs, but on your OWN supply? Instead of taking a hit of weed or tobacco, or anything else you can inhale, just take a DEEP breath. Here let’s explore how you can high on kite—minus the use of drugs that will have long-term repercussions on your health.

ICEMAN HIGH

Enter modern man super human and daredevil: Wim Hof. Hof became infamous by subjecting himself to extreme conditions: hiking Everest (in shorts), completing a full marathon in the Arctic Circle (in shorts), staying immersed in ice for almost 2 hours and running a full marathon in the Namib Desert without water.

His secret? Breathing. Years of exposing himself to extreme temperatures had taught him that there is something rather special about the act of breathing. He had noticed that after some time practicing with cold temperatures, his breathing had strengthened and had become much deeper. He had developed a greater command of his breath as he was experienced in resisting the shock of cold. The feelings of power and exhilaration he experienced when submerged in cold water is a result of adrenaline surging around the body. He used this knowledge to create a breathing technique that imitated the response of the body whilst submerged in cold. subjected himself to rigorous scientific scrutiny, not only during his stunts, The Wim Hof Method of breathing has been scientifically proven to have profound effects on physiology; including the voluntary activation of the sympathetic nervous system and attenuation of the innate immune response. (Study)

SEXY TIME HIGH

No surprises here. Sex floods the pleasure centers of the brain with endorphins and oxytocin. We don’t normally think about breathing, since it comes so naturally to us. But just because we’re going to breathe whether we think about it or not doesn’t mean we’re using our breath in the best way possible. This is especially evident during sex, when our breath can help connect us with our bodies and intensify our sensations.

With breath, you awaken sensitive nerve endings and can experiment with different rhythms, patterns, and temperatures with ease. Two exercises to try during sexy time are

  • Wave Breathing,” where you picture yourself lying on a beach and picture the waves washing over you each time you inhale. When you exhale, picture them moving back into the ocean.
  • Cloud Breathing: where you picture yourself inside a warm, fluffy cloud that tightens around you with each inhale and expands into the sky with each exhale. This should help you get used to deliberately controlling your breath.

Yoga & Meditation High

For me, meditation and Breathwork going hand in hand, like peanut butter and jelly, All techniques of yoga are meditation and the meditative techniques are yoga. Only today’s marketplace has made a distinction between them. The body and breath practices are typically part of yoga’s approach to meditation. “Meditation” today then has become known as all the sitting and mental type practices. In reality these are only part of it. However, for the purpose of modern understanding we can say that we offer several sitting and mental approaches to meditation practice, during the morning, early evening, and specifically scheduled nighttime sessions.

HOT AND COLD HIGH

Saunas and ice baths have long been used for their mood-enhancing benefits. Cold exposure results in the “dopaminergic transmission in the mesocorticolimbic and nigrostriatal pathway.” In other words — all the mind-altering neurotransmitters we love about drugs — without the drugs! (Study)

Next time you’re in the shower, turn the water as hot as you can take it and turn it towards you lower body. After a few minutes, turn the water to full cold and point it towards your head and upper body for another few minutes. Then get out, lie down if you wish, and enjoy the most instantaneous natural high you’ll ever experience.
